What Are The Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must meet the criteria for Track A, Track B, or Track C to be eligible for the REHS/RS exam.

Track A – Environmental Health Degree:

  • Hold a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD from a US-accredited college or university in Environmental Health.
  • Graduate from an EHAC-Accredited Environmental Health program.
  • No proof of work experience required.

Track B – Bachelor's Degree:

  • Hold a bachelor's, master's, or PhD from a US-accredited college or university in any subject.
  • Complete 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) in basic science coursework.
  • Two or more years of full-time, paid environmental health work experience required.

Track C – In Training:

  • Hold a bachelor's, master's, or PhD from a US-accredited college or university in any subject.
  • Complete 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) in basic science coursework.
  • Proof of work experience not required.

Certificates for those who pass the exam in Track C:

  • Receive a certificate as "REHS/RS – In Training."
  • Three years to obtain two years of work experience.
  • "In Training" status expires if work experience is not submitted within three years.

What Are The Disqualification Criteria

Individuals cannot qualify for the REHS/RS Credential if they:
  • Do not hold a degree from a US-accredited college or university.
  • Have not completed basic science coursework.
  • Have not completed a college-level math or statistics class.
  • Board of Directors sets credential criteria; work experience cannot substitute college coursework.

What Is The Fee

All fees must be paid before processing the application.
  • Application Fee:

    • $95.00 (NEHA Member Rate)
    • $130.00 (NEHA Non-Member Rate)
  • Examination Fee:

    • $185.00 (NEHA Member Rate)
    • $335.00 (NEHA Non-Member Rate)
  • Pearson VUE Fee:

    • $140.00

What Is The Application Process

Complete applications at least four weeks before the exam date.

A complete application includes:

  • Official college transcripts (sealed or emailed)
  • Work Experience Verification Form (unless applying Track A or C)
  • Appropriate fees
  • Third-party review if education is international

When Is The Expiration

Applications valid for one year; if the exam not taken within one year, new application and fees required.

  • Complete the REHS/RS application.

How To Maintain My Credential

To maintain the REHS/RS credential, individuals must:
  • Submit a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education every two years.
  • Pay renewal fees every two years ($130.00 NEHA members; $345.00 non-members).
  • Agree to and sign the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct Policy.

What Are The Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must fulfill the criteria for one of the following Tracks to be eligible for the CP-FS exam.
  1. Bachelor's Degree Track:

    • Possess a Bachelor's degree in any subject.
  2. Associate's Degree or Equivalent Track:

    • Have an Associate's degree.
    • Hold a valid, unexpired certificate in one of the following: Certified Professional Food Manager (CPFM), International Certified Food Safety Manager (ICFSM), Food Safety Managers Certification Examination (FSMCE), StateFoodSafety Manager Certification, SuperSafe Mark, or ServSafe Food Protection Manager.
  3. High School Diploma or GED Track:

    • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
    • Hold a valid, unexpired certificate in one of the aforementioned certifications.

What Is The Fees

All fees must be paid in full before processing the application.
  • Application Fee:

    • $95.00 (NEHA Member Rate)
    • $130.00 (NEHA Non-Member Rate)
  • Examination Fee:

    • $165.00 (NEHA Member Rate)
    • $275.00 (NEHA Non-Member Rate)
  • Pearson VUE Fee:

    • $110.00

What Is The Application Process

Applications must be completed and returned for review at least four weeks before the exam date. Late applications may require rescheduling.
